    报告题目: Level-Set Variational Implicit-Solvent Modeling of Biomolecular Interactions

    报告摘要The interactions between biomolecules such as proteins with their surrounding aqueous solvent are crucial to biomolecular processes.  Recent years have seen the initial success of a variational implicit-solvent model (VISM), implemented by a robust level-set computational method, to efficiently capture such interactions.  In this talk, I will describe the theory and methods of the level-set VISM, present the computational results, and discuss how such an approach can capture the charge effect, dewetting transition, and other chemical and physical properties of biomolecular processes. I will also briefly review the mathematical techniques used in the development of this approach, and conclude with possible future research directions with VISM.  This is joint work with many collaborators, particularly with McCammon's group at UC San Diego.

    报告人简介:

    Bo Lis research spans across scientific computing and numerical analysis, partial differential equations, and applied stochastic processes, with application to continuum mechanics, materials science, and more recently, biological physics.  He has published more than 60 research articles in many top journals, including Proceedings of National Academy of Sciences of USA, Physical Review Letters, Archive for Rational Mechanics and Analysis, Mathematics of Computation, and various SIAM journals. His research has been supported by the US National Science Foundation, Department of Energy, and National Institutes of Health. He has given numerous invited research presentations around the world; and has also trained a dozen of postdocs and Ph.D. students.  Bo Li obtained a bachelor degree from Zhejiang Normal University in 1982 and a master degree from Xiangtan University in 1986, both in mathematics. He also obtained a master degree in mechanics and a Ph.D. in mathematics from the University of Minnesota in 1996.  He did a postdoc at UCLA, and was a junior faculty member of the University of Maryland. He has been on the faculty of UC San Diego since 2004, first as an associate professor, and then a full professor since 2010.
